Met with Repub. Cong. ldrship. Good meeting about the remainder of this session & what legislation we could get passed. Meeting with 7 mayors from hard hit areas wanting some kind of help. They’d settle I think for assurance that revenue sharing would not be cut. We’ll have to look into this. Bill Verity gave a sum up of achievements & future plans for the Pvt. Initiative program. He’s performed miracles. Lunch with George S. & Bill C. Think we clarified things for George on what his turf was & what I wanted. Addressed on S. Lawn—great group of Hispanics—this opens Hispanic heritage week. Tonite a reception for the new newspaper “U.S.A. Today” & then on to the dinner for the Conf. of Black Repubs. It was a smash & my speech got 3 standing ovations. Tomorrow Pres. & Imelda Marcos arrive. On Fri. Nancy leaves for Monaco & Princess Graces funeral.
