A slow beginning. For one thing I had to take real coffee in the Oval Office to wake up. It was 6 A.M. in Calif. A light schedule what with Cong. gone until July 14th. A briefing at room 208 in the E.O.B. on the progress of S.D.I. And the progress is real. Our stumbling block is the d--n Congress who keep cutting the funding which pushes delays of one or two yrs. every time they have their way.
Nancy came over for lunch with me on the patio plus photos for Life Mag. My afternoon was mainly desk work, mail etc. Then I saw 6 Ambas’s. off, got a haircut & then into Tux for a 1 hr. reception—the diplomatic corps.
