The usual morning meetings then met with new task force on Arts & Humanities, 3 cochairmen—Chuck Heston, Amb. Dan Terra & a lady the Pres. of U. of Chi. (Hanna) A number of old friends, all in all a solid group which I think can do much to stimulate pvt. support rather than govt. grants. Back to meeting with Sens. & Reps—1st on the tax pckg—then a group concerned about continuing protective quotas for the shoe industry. Then a group of Sen. Dem’s.—taxes again. Finally a lengthy briefing for tomorrow’s press conf.
