Usual morning meetings—but day really got under way at 10:30 when I went over to Constitution Hall & addressed Nat. Chamber of Commerce (about 3,000). They were more than enthusiastic in their reception. Back to the Cabinet room for the issues lunch—1st we’ve had in a few weeks. Then a signing ceremony for Nat. Volunteer Week. About 44 of the people who are really making volunteerism work.
A lot of Desk time—then a short get together with the ladies about 20 of them who contribute $5,000 a year to the Nat. Fed. of Repub. Women. I’ve urged them to stage a drive for the ’88 election to revive the Repub. 11th commandment. A photo with 2 editors of the Japanese paper Asahi Shimbun. Then upstairs to dress for Paul Laxalts annual Lamb Fry at the Georgetown Club. Onto the event & as always it was fun.
