2026 Reagan National Economic Survey

Overview

Academic, political, and commercial pollsters frequently survey the American people to determine their views on the current state and future of the American economy. However, relatively few of those surveys seek to capture the essence of economics: scarcity, opportunity cost, and decisions about trade-offs. The Reagan National Economic Survey is designed to fill this gap.

Introduction to 2026 Survey Report

The Reagan National Econmic survey asks questions primarily about tradeoffs between different policy goals, design choices, and constraints. To the extent possible, the survey seeks to identify real policy trade-offs and use steelmanned framing experiments to understand what Americans believe and prefer subject to constraints.

Additionally, this survey asks questions comparing Americans’ views on topical economic phenomena that can be measured against expert views as well as questions aimed at learning about Americans’ information sources, trusted authorities, and beliefs about the economic policies of President Ronald Reagan.
