The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is the sole nonprofit organization created by President Reagan himself, charged with advancing his legacy and principles – limited government, individual liberty, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, and national pride. The Foundation is a non-partisan organization which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, the Air Force One Pavilion, and the award-winning Leadership Academy, as well as the Reagan Institute, which carries out the Foundation’s work in Washington, DC. 

The Reagan Library houses over 60 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential, and personal papers, over 1.6 million photographs, a half million feet of motion picture film, 25,000 audio recordings, 22,000 video recordings, and over 83,000 objects chronicling the lives of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.  It also serves as the final resting place of America’s 40th President and his First Lady. www.reaganfoundation.org   

Job Overview/Reporting Relationship

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute seeks a full-time Policy Assistant for the Center for Civics, Education and Opportunity (CCEO).  This position will report to the Director of the Center for Civics, Education, and Opportunity in Washington, DC.  The Policy Assistant will perform a wide variety of functions in support of national programming, events, and policy research advancing economic growth, innovation, and opportunity. These activities include: program design and development, research assistance and planning, development/fundraising support, marketing, and general office duties. This individual will be a proactive take-charge team-player who is a strong communicator, excellent writer, and detail-oriented, and has experience providing administrative and office support. Finally, this individual should be mission driven and solutions oriented to ensure the American experiment continues to thrive. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Policy Assistant will support the Center for Civics, Education, and Opportunity (CCEO) through the following core responsibilities:

  • Assist with major convenings such as the Reagan National Economic Forum (RNEF) and the Reagan Institute Summit on Education (RISE), as well as smaller events focused on education, civic learning, and national programming.

  • Coordinate event logistics including scheduling, reservations, venue and hotel selection, A/V setup, and participant communications.

  • Conduct research and analysis, including list building, memo writing, relationship tracking, presentation prep, and drafting remarks and reports.

  • Support student and emerging professional programs, including the American Opportunity Bootcamp and Civic Leadership Fellowship.

  • Provide research, writing, and development support to the Director and Associate Director, including grant proposals and donor engagement.

  • Maintain shared files and tracking systems, and assist with social media, outreach, and communications.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Characteristics

The ideal candidate for this role will be:

  • Committed to expanding opportunity for all Americans through education reform and growth-oriented economic policy ideas, inspired by President Reagan’s call for “an informed patriotism” as communicated in his Farewell Address.

  • Mission-driven and passionate about economic growth, innovation, and opportunity.

  • A college graduate, ideally with a major or significant coursework in economics, social sciences, or a related field. 

  • An enthusiastic self-directed learner about economic and education policy, research, and practice, as well as Reagan Foundation and Institute’s operations, projects, and programs.

  • Highly detail oriented and able to work independently.

  • Able to travel and work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends when required.

Salary/Benefits/Location

  • This full-time position offers an annual salary of $48,000-$52,000 based on experience

  • In addition, there are excellent benefits, including paid vacation, a health/dental plan, and a generous 403(b) retirement plan.

  • This is an exempt, full-time position. Occasional evenings and weekends for special events are required.

  • The position is located onsite at our office in Washington, D.C., with hybrid options available with advance approval.  

  • From time to time, travel may be required to participate in meetings and/or events at the Foundation office in Simi Valley, California or elsewhere.
