The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) is the sole nonprofit organization created by President Reagan charged with advancing his legacy and principles – individual liberty, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, and national pride.
A globally recognized nonpartisan organization based in Simi Valley, CA, with a leading policy institute in Washington, DC, RRPFI delivers impactful public affairs programming, policy convenings and projects of national and international significance, scholarly initiatives, and distinctive educational programming shaping the perspectives of middle, high school, and college students.
In addition, RRPFI sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, the largest and most visited presidential library. With views all the way to the Pacific Ocean and an hour from Los Angeles International Airport, RRPFI’s Simi Valley campus sits on 400 acres atop a hill, serves as the final resting place of America’s 40th President and former First Lady Nancy Reagan, displays a chunk of the Berlin Wall, and houses (among other remarkable displayed hardware) the plane President Reagan flew on as Air Force One to 26 countries. Also onsite are the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, the Air Force One Pavilion, and the Reagan Leadership Center.
Overview
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) seeks a strategic, detail-oriented, and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Advancement Services. This position oversees the operational functions that power RRPFI’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts, ensuring that frontline fundraisers and leadership have the tools, data, and processes needed to maximize philanthropic impact.
The Director of Advancement Services will both directly manage key operational and strategic functions and lead teams and vendors in others supporting fundraising. Areas of responsibility include the annual fund and membership programs, and related data and portfolio management, events, gift processing, stewardship, communications, budgeting, projections, and special projects. This role will ensure efficiency, accuracy, and high-quality execution across all advancement operations.
The ideal candidate will thrive at balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution, work comfortably across multiple priorities, and bring a strong customer-service mindset to supporting colleagues, leadership, donors, and partners. The candidate is expected to bring experience, critical thinking, process, and project management skills to the Development team, which is required to achieve ambitious fundraising goals and growth.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Management
Oversee all Advancement Services functions that form the operational backbone of RRPFI’s development program.
Lead, mentor, and collaborate with staff, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and high-quality execution of all Advancement Services responsibilities.
Develop and manage budgets, financial projections, and operational plans for Advancement Services functions.
Supervise and/or personally manage revenue generating verticals of membership, mail, and digital.
Tasked with increasing revenue within each of the aforementioned verticals, with aggressive and ambitious goals.
Expected to manage three full-time and two part-time staff members in year one. This has the potential to grow over time, and there is the expectation that there will be an increase in focus, direction, and output of existing team members and revenue generating functions.
Serve as a key partner to the Chief Development Officer on special projects, strategic initiatives, and campaign readiness.
Annual Fund & Membership
Direct the strategy and oversight of the annual fund and membership programs, managing strategic execution in collaboration with vendors for mail, email, and digital fundraising.
Guide donor acquisition, renewal, and upgrade strategies across channels, ensuring data-driven segmentation and testing.
Oversee membership benefits fulfillment, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to members.
Data, Research, & Portfolio Management
Provide strategic insights and collaboration with internal and external team members to ensure data integrity, enhance and build informative reports and analytics in the CRM (Salesforce) and other integrated applications.
Supervise the fundraising data management staff member in carrying out prospect research, wealth screening, and portfolio management activities to provide gift officers with the information and tools they need for effective donor engagement.
Gift Processing & Administration
Oversee accurate and timely processing of all gifts (cash and non-cash), new and renewed memberships, acknowledgments, and receipts in compliance with GAAP and IRS regulations.
Ensure proper documentation of donor intent, restricted funds, and gift agreements including clearly defined payment (donation) schedules when applicable.
Collaborate with Finance and IT to reconcile records and prepare accurate reports.
Events & Stewardship
Lead strategy for donor, member, and cultivation events in partnership with Events staff.
Oversee stewardship programs including acknowledgments, recognition societies, and impact reporting.
Communications
Collaborate with the Marketing team and lead development communications to ensure all donor-related materials are mission-aligned, brand-consistent, and compelling.
Oversee content for donor communications, including appeals, stewardship reports, and membership messaging.
Coordinate with the Marketing and IT departments for calendaring and sending communications (i.e., email campaigns).
Technology & Process Improvement
Work with team members, including RRPFI IT, and contracted vendors to ensure the CRM and related tools are optimized for data accuracy, reporting, and campaign tracking.
Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and training to support efficient Advancement Services operations and data integrity.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, streamline workflows, and adopt best practices in advancement operations.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in advancement services, development operations, or related nonprofit management roles.
Demonstrated success managing staff, vendors, and multi-function operations in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of annual giving, membership programs, prospect research, data management, gift processing, and stewardship.
Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), data analytics, and fundraising reporting.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across all levels of the organization.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
