Learned that 950 men of the 82nd Airborne are now departing Grenada & will be home for Christmas. That is the last of the combat troops. About 300 M.P.’s, Engineers, Sea Bees & Medical will remain to help the transition govt. there. Off to N.Y. for the annual meeting of the Cong. Medal of Honor Recipients Foundation. It was a moving experience, almost 200 of the 259 still living were on hand with wives, familys etc. They presented me with their award—The Medal for Patriotism. Only 11 have been given. Back to W.H. met with Tom O’Brien & Anthony Aguilar (the John Wayne of Mexico). Tony had his family, his lovely wife & 2 fine sons. He does an annual 5 mo. tour of the U.S.—Rodeos etc. Appears before 3 1⁄2 mil. Hispanics. He means to use those appearances to hail me as his friend.
