Started off like Monday but a meeting with our Council on Integrity & Efficiency in Govt. & our inspector Generals. They have been in business 6 mos. & brought me their report. They have saved the taxpayers $2 bil. in 6 months. Indicted & convicted several hundred people for graft. Found already 8500 people drawing Soc. Security who have been dead for an average of 81 months. Space shuttle pilots & their wives came in to receive medals. These were the fellows I talked to when they were in space. Met with group of grass roots Repubs. (all people who had worked in my campaign in 16 diff. states). They reported people in their areas were solidly behind us—even the unemployed. Doug Fairbanks dropped in as did Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lasorda. They presented Nancy & me with Dodger warm-up jackets. An N.S.C. meeting re Quadaffi. No conclusions reached except that we cant do anything until we find an answer to the 1700 Americans still working in Libya. Was made an Honorary Col. in the Army of Texas—an org. going back to 1830 complete with buckskin clothes & muzzle loaders. A young 28 yr. old Col. presented me with muzzle loader he himself had made. It’s one of the most beautiful pieces of work I’ve ever seen. Had a long talk with Bill Clark about some in house problems that must be solved.
