Left the W.H. on Marine 1 at 9:10 A.M. for Andrews A.F.B.—cool & cloudy day. Departed on A.F.1 for Columbus Ohio. Guests on board were Cong. man Chalmers Wylie, Del Latta, John Kasich & Sec. Wm. Verity, Jim Baker, & Tim Timken of Timken Steel.

Arrived at airport at 10:35 then a 25 mile drive to Ohio St. U. Met by Pres. of U. & other officials, Mayor George Voinovich—now cand. for Metzenbaums Sen. seat.

I address a crowd of some 12,000 mostly students. Reception was overwhelming. Most of the students are members of College Republicans. My pitch was for Bush & Voinovich & well received—there were other cands. for Cong. St. Legis. & Judges—I plugged all of them.

Then on to Bowling Green Ohio a rally for Bush/Quale & of course Voinovich. This was an outdoor rally in front of the Court House—about 10,000 people. Again the reception was enthusiastic.

Then on to Cincinnati a Voinovich dinner. Did a receiving line for about 70 couples 1st. Then into dinner. I spoke before dinner & left for Wash. Again the reception was enthusiastic. Had dinner on the plane & arrived at W.H. about 8 P.M. It was an overwhelming day. The warmth of my reception at every stop was very moving. Nancy had spent part of day at a riding academy that has a program of horseback therapy for disabled children. And so to bed.
