Up early & off to Phil. to begin with. Another 3 stop day. Began with a stop in the W.H. map room to get latest word on things. Landed at 10:45. We had Cong.man Curt Weldon, Dan Ritter on board & Cand. Ed Howard. A 25 min. drive to Upper Darby High school. Gym crowded with a few thousand students of U.D. & Prendergast Hi & Bonner Hi. Another thousand were outdoors watching on T.V. I couldn’t have asked for a warmer more enthusiastic audience. It was wonderful.

From the school we went on to Lukens inn. There I did a receiving line & photos with big donors. They were having a lunch but I spoke before lunch & then went on to the residence of Arch Bishop Bevilacqua. Ken D. & I had lunch with his excellency & a Monsignor who was his chf. of staff. This was most enjoyable. Afterward I met with Mrs. Setzer & her children Christie 11, Mark 7, & Louis 10 months. This was the family of a police officer who had been killed a few weeks ago. From there it was back to the airport & on to Newark N.J.

We had Pete Dawkins cand. for Sen. from N.J. on Board. We were met by Gov. Tom Kean among others. He was with us for all the scheduled things. We went to the Marriott hotel for a brief reception & photo opportunity with donors. From there we motored to West Orange. Whoa—I left out an hour & a half of down time at Newark Marriott hotel.

Now in W. Orange where in an Ice Hockey bldg. a dinner was scheduled by Italian Am. society. The place was full with 1500 diners & another 1000 or more non diners in the bleachers. Tom Kean introduced me & I addressed the most friendly enthusiastic audience you could imagine.

Back to the airport—a brief meeting with a small group of major doors & prominent citizens. Then on to A.F.1 & back to W.H. at about 8:50.
