More on Lebanon in N.S.C. briefing—still no cease fire. French however took shells on their positions & suffered more casualties. They for 1st time scrambled 8 planes from their carrier & bombed P.L.O. batteries in the mountains. This was a day for me like few others. First I went over to State Dept. and addressed the W.H. Conf. on Productivity. Then Lunch with Am. Bus. Women for signing of proclamation declaring it was Bus. Womens Day. Some desk time—worked on U.N. speech then had visit by Special Olympics Poster Child & family. This retarded boy won the 25 & 50 meter swimming events. The Epilepsy Poster Child & family next. He was 7 yrs. old & actually diagnosed his own illness after hearing a lecture on Epilepsy. Hector Camacho—world’s feather weight champ came by. Then Mr. Maroon & Mr. Black presented me with their book, “Keepers of the Sea.” It is most impressive. Saw some Ambassadors off—all to African nations. Met with “White House Fellows”—a new class. Dropped in on Reception for Am. Women in Radio & T.V. Back to W.H. for reception—the Nat. Board of the Smithsonian. Finally the day was over. Home to Nancy—& Maureen.
