To Rose Garden for brief greeting to assembled reps. of future farmers of Am. It was pleasant meeting them as always. Then it was off to Concord N.H. & a giant outdoor rally for tax reform. I was enthusiastically received & have the backing of Gov. Sununu & N.H. Congressional group & now the people.

Back to Wash. & a meeting with speech writers—discussed importance of putting facts & figures in speeches. Then a meeting with Bob Packwood—chairman of Sen. Committee that will have to do with tax reform. I stressed importance of Sen. voting on tax reform this year if House sent a bill over before years end.

Tonite BBQ for all the Cong. on the S. Lawn. Our tablemates the Doles & the O’Neills.—Whoops!! The O’Neills cancelled—replaced by the Michels. A fun nite Mickey Gilley (Texas) entertained.
