Met with George Shultz re the Taiwan situation. I think we’re all squared away on that. Spent morning phoning business leaders & meeting with congressmen 1 on 1 re the tax bill. It looks like I wont be able to leave for the ranch before Fri. Tonite did my 20 min. speech on nat. T.V. explaining the tax bill & why it should be adopted. The phone calls are coming in about 3 to 1 favorable—more than 1500 so far. Tomorrow we’ll have a broader return.
