And off to St. Louis. Before that a few chores in the office including a talk with Cap W.—this budget matter is a tough one. We’ll go at it again Mon. Lebanon cease fire being violated on the Syrian front but this time there is no question it is being violated by Syrian sneak attacks on Israelis. Went directly from A.F.1 to the Mathews-Dickey Boys Club. These gentlemen, Mr. Mathews & Mr. Dickey Ballentine are black & 20 yrs. ago in this black neighborhood in N. St. Louis decided on the Club idea for youngsters. They literally met under a shade tree. Then they moved up to a store front. Now the club is a multi-million dollar bldg.—gym, work shop etc. I spoke to 2000 members plus parents, board members etc. Behind me in uniforms were 65 boys baseball teams. It was an inspiring experience. As a complete surprise I presented both founders with Presidential medals. From there we went direct to the lovely home of Mr. Pfautch who hosted a fundraising reception for Eureka College. On to the hotel—a T.V. interview with a well known Black commentator. The big affair was the Olympic Comm. dinner honoring August Busch III. Mike Reagan & Colleen were there, he had just completed the speedboat run from N.O. setting a new record 1027 miles in 25 hrs. 11 mins. He was really exhausted.
