Met with the task force David Rockefeller has put together to stimulate investment in Jamaica. P.M. Siaga is trying to recover from the ec. damage done to his country by the Marxist Mandel who preceded him. I’m greatly encouraged. Then a meeting with about 30 of our former St. Chmn. who are working to generate support for ec. program. Sent letters to 3 families—letters of a type I’ve never had to do before. They were in reply to letters from mothers whose little girls ranging from 3 to 13 had been murdered & raped. They wrote because they said each of the girls had intended to send me letters of good wishes, get well etc. The mothers thought they would do what their daughters could no longer do. I hope my replies brought some comfort but I’ve never felt so helpless. Dropped in at dinner in which Bill Simon had a chair named for him at Georgetown U. It has to do with free enterprise. Bill has a new book coming out named “A Call to Action.” His 1st book sold about 4 mil. copies. Mike Abrams is in the Lincoln Room. Tomorrow they set up our gym equipment.
