Woke up to dismal fog. Took Marine 1 back to W.H.—let Nancy off then to Andrews & A.F.1 to N.Y. Outside the city in Nassau Co. the opening ceremonies of the International Games For The Disabled. A sell out crowd—2000 disabled contestants from 54 countries. Like the Olympics those games take place every 4 years. This is the 3rd such event. The parade of the teams behind each countrys flag revealed young men & women with every kind of disability—yet they compete. One young fellow with only 1 leg high jumps more than 6 ft. Another with an artificial leg runs the 400 meters in less than 50 seconds etc. etc. I spoke & officially opened the games. Then back to the W.H.
