Key Facts
President Reagan travels to Oklahoma City to talk to employees at an AT&T Communications plant.
President Reagan travels to Atlanta, GA for a fundraising campaign for Senator Nickles.
At 9:40 A.M. I boarded Marine 1 & 10 min. later was on A.F.1. We were off to Okla. City. Nancy stayed home. In Okla. City I was slated to speak to the emp’s. of A.T. & T. Communications plant. It was to be an outdoor meeting but 7 inches of rain took care of that. A crew worked all night setting things up for indoors. There were 7000 employees & familys inside & more than 2000 outdoors in the rain where they could hear but not see. They’d been there for hours. On the way out we stopped the car & I used the car mike to say a few things to them. The whole thing was on the tax reform. Then on to a fund raiser for Sen. Don Nicols [Nickles]. More money was raised than at any other pol. fundraiser in the history of the state.
Back to A.F.1 & on the way to Atlanta Ga. No rain there—just 100° heat. Another fund raiser, this time for Sen. Mack Mattingly. This one also broke the record in Georgia for money raised. In all of these including the one I’ll do in Alabama tomorrow the main theme is tax reform. So far it is received enthusiastically.
