Key Facts
President Reagan meets with President of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria Chadli Benjedid.
President Reagan meets with Members of Congress and Administration officials to discuss the situation in Nicaragua.
This was Pres. Benjedid (Algeria) day. The usual formal mil. ceremony. The weather was perfect and everything went well including our meetings. Algeria under this Pres. is a different Algeria than it was a half dozen years ago. We have found major areas of agreement—on Quadafi, Middle East Peace etc. Met with George Shultz then met with the House Intelligence Committee on our Nicaragua peace plan. There was a lot of agreement on the need to act in a non-partisan manner. I did a half dozen tapings then a half hour session of one on one meetings with members of Cong. re Nicaragua.
The State dinner was most successful. The entertainment was a Ballet team from the Am. Ballet Theatre.
