Off for a busy day in N. Y.—Spoke (luncheon) to the Women in Bus. Conf. and was very well recv’d. It was a bleak windy day with rain pouring down. I couldn’t believe it but in all that rain people by the 1000’s lined the streets as if for a parade all the way through the city. After the speech went to the Hudson Guild Day Care Center. This is a great example of govt. working with the Pvt. sector to meet a need. Several corps. help finance this center & wonderful women vol. to work with the children. In the late afternoon—spoke to a group of Jewish leaders. Again it was a worthwhile session. I did Q&A. Evening was a banquet for the N.Y. State Federation of Catholic School Parents. Nancy had arrived for that. We picked up ArchBishop O’Connor & went to the banquet together. This too was a great event.—Back to the W.H. & bed by midnight.
