Short meeting with Howard, Geo. B., & Howards new deputy. A little talk about the Highway bill & an appt. to the Bank Board. I think we’ve decided on Donny Wall. Which will make Jake Garn happy.

At N.S.C. the talk was mainly on the upcoming visit of Sec. of State to Moscow. I think we’re going to have some differences between Geo. S. & Cap on arms negotiations involving S.D.I.

Then it was up to Capitol Hill to meet with & speak to the Repub. Conf. which is our 177 Repub. Reps. I spoke & then took Q’s for about half an hour. It really went fine & I think we should do it more often.

Back at the W.H.—lunch then a meeting with Arch Bishop Iakovas of Greek Orthodox Church. He presented me with an Icon. Greek Ambas. & several Greek Americans were on hand. This is Greek Independence day. His Eminence whispered that P.M. Papandreou would like an invitation to Wash.

Geo. S.—in—whole period spent on his suggestions for what he should present on arms deals to Soviets.

An unusual meeting with a group of die hard conservatives Paul Laxalt has put together to advise & present conservative views. It’s a good idea & I enjoyed it.

Then 2 tchrs. (at request of Tommy Thomas) brought in 10 Foreign exchange high school students—Finland, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Norway etc. They are in a school at Panama City Fla. and were on a field trip to Wash. It was fun—they all talk Eng.
