First talk was about 23 indictments against Col. North, John Poindexter, Gen. Secord & Hakim. Nothing much to say really.
N.S.C.—The 1st plane load of our soldiers took off at 7:03 A.M. this morning for Honduras. By end of day tomorrow all 3200 will be in place. Last loads of 82nd will parachute in.
Noriega has given hints he’d like to speak to reps. of our govt. Our Chiefs want to send more M.P.’s to Panama—I’ve OK’d another 100 tomorrow.
New Italian P.M. has been named—De Mita. Saudi Arabia is enlarging & adding more missile facilities. At 10 A.M. a delegation of Irish govt. officials plus our Ambas. Margaret Heckler came to Oval O.—They presented a bowl of Shamrocks, a set of Gold coins commemorating Dublins 1000th Birthday & a beautiful sword—replica of a Viking sword captured 1000 yrs. ago.
Twas an Irish day. I had a luncheon date with Jack Kilpatrick. I took him to Alexandria to a cafe—the “Ireland’s Owned [Own].” It was a festive occasion there with Irish music & all. Then I hurried to the Capitol to have dessert & Irish coffee at Jim Wrights St. Pat lunch. Back at the W.H. some desk time & phone calls re the veto last night of the Grove City bill.
Then a photo with Pvt. Sector Staff. Personnel time with Bob Tuttle & finally Admin. time—photos with a few who are departing etc.
Dropped by W.H. Mess for party Jim Hooley was having for staff—then upstairs for the night.
