Phil Habib came in with a more complete report on his trip to Central America. There is no question but that Central Am. wants us to continue helping the Contras.

Following him, P.M. Fitzgerald of Ireland arrived—also our new Ambas. Peggy Heckler obviously very happy in her work. We had a good meeting capped by a Rose Garden appearance for the press. He presented me with a bowl of Shamrocks & a Waterford crystal replica of the Statue of Liberty. After he left an Ec. briefing & things still look good. At the issues lunch—Don R. had arranged a surprise for me—a bag piper, & Irish colleen dancer, a male singer who did Danny Boy only he made it Ronnie Boy, & a midget dressed like a Leprechaun.

Later in the afternoon Danny Kay came by with a letter from the P.M. of Denmark. Then Al & Cynthia Schwabacher dropped in.

An Interview with Hugh Sidey—always a pleasure—a haircut & home. The Aga Khan—our hostess in Geneva has presented me with an aquarium.

An early dinner then over to the Boston College dinner for Tip O’Neill—a good time & home early.

Getting a lot of Kudos for last nights speech.
