Met with our Repub. House Leadership—same subject—the deficit. They are thinking along our same lines. We’re still waiting to hear from our Senators—they’re scheduled for tomorrow morning. Went to Congress Heights Elementary School. This is the school the W.H. adopted. It was fun. I did a Q&A with the kids then back to the W.H. for the last of Mermies luncheons for elected Repub. Women from the West this time. Again Q&A & it was a great success. Mermie has really done a job on this & the women all like her very much. Later in the day had an interview with 8 reporters from 8 S. Eastern states. I did get a chance to get in some good licks—if they’ll use them. Had some Congressional photo time. One brought an Artist in his 80’s who did a portrait of me in White tie & tails. Another brought a lady 101 yrs. old who says she’s looking forward to voting for me in Nov. There were several others including 2 ladies who are working hard on a program to provide donors for liver transplants. One lost her child for lack of a donor—the other is waiting for one for her little girl. Nancy is in Ariz. tonite—Calif. tomorrow nite & back here Wed.
