A day that should never happen again. By the end of the 1st hour I was behind schedule. It was one meeting after another, most of them with Reps. & Sens. some in groups, a few singles. The subject was Nicaragua & why they should vote for aid to the Contras. On one meeting it was however it was the immigration bill and another was tax reform.
We had lunch for about 100 Regional press—a speech & Q&A. It was fun. Then an Ec. Policy Council meeting. I O.K.’d moving $700 mil. from one program to our loan program for farmers. Had a meeting with Ed Meese & Mac Baldridge then a presentation of papers by 7 foreign Ambassadors. Over in the Library a cocktail with several of the press corps—an off the record informal session. I enjoyed it. Then up to dinner & a Happy Birthday call on P.A. to Bob Michel.v
