Spent the day (except for the radio broadcast) at my desk upstairs answer ing mail. Anne Higgins sent a batch over. The letters are wonderful. One young mother told me how she got along with great difficulty on a job plus some welfare. Then we cancelled out the welfare. Then she thanked me for making her stand on her own feet because she’s now earning more than double what her income from work & welfare had been.
A little dinner for the Regans & Doles—very pleasant.
