Former Vice President Richard Cheney and his daughter, Elizabeth Cheney, discussed copies of their latest book, In My Time.
Few Americans alive today can match the breadth of former Vice President Dick Cheney’s service as a statesman, policymaker, and politician. The former Vice President has collaborated with his daughter Liz Cheney, attorney and former State Department senior official, in In My Time, to offer his reflections on world affairs, American politics and campaigns, conservative ideology, and the critical events of our era.
Across four decades of public life, including as the 46th Vice President of the United States, as our nation’s Secretary of Defense, as a Member of Congress from Wyoming and as the White House Chief of Staff to President Gerald Ford, Dick Cheney has served at the highest levels of government during some of the critical days in modern American history.
In 1991, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In the eight eventful years of the Bush presidency, the vice president was best known for his involvement in national security matters following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Liz Cheney is an attorney and specialist in U.S. Middle East policy. From 2005- 2006, she was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. In this capacity, she was the second-ranking State Department official responsible for U.S. policy in the Middle East. Prior to that, Ms. Cheney served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs from 2002 to 2004. She is also a member of the International Board of Visitors at the University of Wyoming, and chairman of the board of the Institute for the Study of War in Washington, DC.
She collaborated with Vice President Cheney on his memoirs, covering 40 years of his career in Washington.
