Statement by Fred Ryan, Chairman of the Board of The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute on the Death Christopher "Kit" Bond
Simi Valley, California – The Reagan Foundation mourns the passing of former United States Senator and Governor Christopher “Kit” Bond —a dedicated public servant, statesman, and friend of Ronald Reagan.
At just 33 years old, Kit Bond became the youngest Governor in Missouri’s history, launching a remarkable career that would span decades in public service. As Governor and later as a four-term U.S. Senator, he was a principled and pragmatic leader—committed to strengthening national security, improving children’s health, advancing education, and building a brighter future for rural communities.
President Reagan was proud to support Kit during his successful 1986 campaign for the U.S. Senate. On the campaign trail, he told Missourians: “If you'd like to vote for me one more time, you can do it by voting for Kit Bond.” That endorsement reflected the deep respect President Reagan had for Kit’s values, vision, and leadership.
Ronald Reagan once said that his admiration for the people of this country was only matched by the love that Kit Bond had for the people of Missouri.
A champion for national security, children’s health, education, and rural development, Kit approached each cause with conviction, civility, and heart. He was admired not only for what he accomplished, but for the decency and determination with which he served.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Linda, his son Samuel and daughter-in-law Margaret, and his beloved grandchildren. His legacy will endure in the lives he touched and the principles he stood for.
