STATEMENT BY FRED RYAN, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION AND INSTITUTE ON THE DEATH OF DR. RICHARD V. ALLEN

Simi Valley, California – The Reagan Foundation and Institute mourns the passing of Dr. Richard (Dick) Allen, a distinguished public servant and National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan. Dr. Allen passed away on Saturday at the age of 88.

As President Reagan's first National Security Advisor, Dick Allen played a pivotal role in shaping the early foreign policy framework of the Reagan Administration—the very policies that turned the tide of the Cold War, liberating hundreds of millions of people.

Before joining the Reagan Administration, Dick Allen served as a trusted foreign policy advisor to Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, drawing on his deep understanding of international relations and conservative principles. His work extended beyond government, with decades of international business consulting, and leadership roles at institutions such as the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Dick Allen was more than a policy advisor—he was a dedicated husband, father, and mentor. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia, their seven children, 22 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dick Allen’s entire family. His commitment to advancing Ronald Reagan’s vision of a freer, safer world will be remembered with gratitude and admiration.
