Will Lead the Reagan Institute’s Center for Civics, Education and Opportunity in Washington, DC
Washington, D.C. — Today the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute announced that Daniel M. Rothschild has been appointed Director of the Ronald Reagan Institute’s Center for Civics, Education and Opportunity (CCEO). With an emphasis on the “opportunity” dimension of CCEO, Mr. Rothschild will lead the Center’s national programming, policy development, and events in the areas of education policy, economic policy, and civics.
Mr. Rothschild brings to the Reagan Institute extensive leadership experience and expertise on economics and the current landscape of solutions supporting free enterprise, entrepreneurialism, economic dynamism, and growth. In addition, Mr. Rothschild will lead program design and development, research and planning, and major policy convenings.
CCEO impacts American society through programs, projects and convenings that address three areas of domestic policy – civics, education, and economic opportunity. Placing America’s future at the center of our work, CCEO develops innovative solutions to ensure a more prosperous future for our country and, as Ronald Reagan put it, “renew the American spirit and sense of purpose.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Daniel Rothschild as the new Director for the Center for Civics, Opportunity, and Education,” said Roger Zakheim, Director of the Reagan Institute. “With over a decade of distinguished leadership, where he adeptly spearheaded strategy and operations, Dan brings formidable expertise and a profound commitment to advancing economic opportunity. His extensive experience positions him as an invaluable asset to our team, poised to elevate our initiatives and further our mission."
Mr. Rothschild has been charged with developing and overseeing national programming and economic, educational, and civics policy initiatives. This includes:
- Major new economic policy convenings bringing together top policymakers, business leaders, entrepreneurs and scholars to address cutting edge growth ideas rooted in President Reagan’s legacy.
- Overseeing the annual Reagan Institute Summit on Education (RISE), which brings together top leaders and key stakeholders in the education community to assess the health of, and address the key issues in, education in the United States.
- Education, civic learning, and economic programming, such as the American Opportunity Bootcamp, an annual economics intensive for college students and young professionals.
“Daniel Rothschild joins our team with extensive policy expertise, a track record as a leader, and a deep appreciation for President Reagan’s compelling economic legacy,” said David Trulio, President and CEO of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. “Dan will extend our leadership in civics and education policy and position us to advance a strong and prosperous economy for all Americans.”
“I am incredibly excited to join the Ronald Reagan Institute team and to lead the Center for Civics, Education, and Opportunity,” said Rothschild. “The principles that President Reagan championed—including individual liberty, economic opportunity, and national pride—are in short supply today, but they’re the bedrock of the American project. The Reagan Institute is uniquely positioned to play a leadership role in reinvigorating those principles for a new generation.”
From 2014 through this past summer, Mr. Rothschild served as executive director of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Under his leadership, Mercatus tripled the number students in its fellowship programs to more than 600, raised and distributed $70 million in support of social entrepreneurs, analyzed seven million state and federal regulations, and saw 3,000 schools nationwide adopt its high school economics curriculum. In this same period, Mercatus launched new research initiatives on housing reform, monetary policy, democratic governance, and emerging technologies.
Mr. Rothschild is on the governing or advisory boards of the Paragon Health Institute, Antigua Forum (Guatemala), Prosperiti (India), and the Economic Policy Information Center.
His popular writing and articles and reviews have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Reason, Weekly Standard, Roll Call, The Hill, Chicago Policy Review, Economic Affairs, and many other popular and policy publications. He was a 2012-13 National Review Institute Washington fellow. Dan has testified before the U.S. Congress and several state legislatures on tax and fiscal policy, government reform, and disaster recovery policy.
Mr. Rothschild holds degrees from Grinnell College, the University of Manchester, and the University of Michigan. He and his wife live with their three children in Arlington, Virginia.
