A busier day than yesterday. Opened with the memorial mass for J.F.K. at the church in Georgetown. Back to the Oval office & a meeting with Israeli Pres. Hertzog. His office is mainly ceremonial so there were no issues to be settled but we had a good talk about Lebanon & Syria. He’s a very sensible man. Bill Smith came by (top secret). It looks like F.B.I. wants to “lie detector” of 3 of our people in their investigation of the leak some time ago of a top secret N.S.C. meeting. Don Regan came by for another top secret item. We’re going to change our currency. Copying machine including new ones due on the market in ’86 can duplicate existing paper money so realistically it’s almost impossible to tell the difference. Already we estimate some where near $100 mil. of counterfeit in circulation. Cardinal Casaroli (Sec. St. to the Vatican) came for a visit with Bill Wilson. Brooke Kanopp the gal who flew a corp. jet around the world—pole to pole in 51 hrs. I awarded her the F.A.A. top medal. Andy Williams & others for opening of Xmas seal drive. The sculptress doing the G.O.P. sculpture came by. Charlie Sampson cowboy injured in the Rodeo here is out of the hospital came by with Mac Baldridge. Met with Don R., Jim B. & Paul Volcker. Paul believes he has to limit money supply & slow down ec. recovery to reduce inflation. It’s true inflation is going up some these past few months but we dont believe we should slow down the recovery. A reception for the Senatorial Trust—donors of $10,000 each to the Sen. campaign fund. Another lonesome evening but—tomorrow 9 A.M.—off to Calif. & Mommie.
