The American Presidency (3 credits) – GOVT 308 (Required)

The Leadership and the American Presidency course is the core component of the LTAP program. Through the hallmark Presidential Leadership Journey, students will critically examine presidential leadership from a historical context in a thematic way, making connections to their own leadership journeys. Real history will be utilized through case studies, and immersive sessions at presidential sites. Real leaders will offer their lessons on leadership from across the sectors of business, government, and the non-profit field. Finally, leadership skills will be challenged through authentic practices and assessments, both in the classroom and in real world settings. Joseph Nye Jr.’s text, Presidential Leadership and the Creation of the American Era will serve as a guide for this course along the Presidential Leadership Journey.
