Event - Foreign Influence Operations and American Elections: Risks and Responses

July 25, 2024

Past Event

Schedule

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM ET

Washington, DC.

You are cordially invited to join Freedom House and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute’s Center on Civility and Democracy for an event on foreign influence operations and the risks to the coming U.S. elections.

Foreign influence operations by actors linked to authoritarian regimes like Russia and China pose a threat to U.S. security and democracy globally. Ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections, malign influence operations have the potential to stoke and spread confusion, division, and violence that risk interference with America’s free and open democratic process. This event will gather policymakers and experts for a discussion of foreign influence threats to our electoral process and what concrete actions our leaders can take to counter false and misleading information in the lead-up to November and beyond.

The program will feature a conversation with Senator Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, moderated by Mr. Fred Ryan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, followed by a conversation with Rep. Brad Wenstrup, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence's Subcommittee on Oversight. The event will continue with a panel of experts, including Ms. Kat Duffy of the Council on Foreign Relations, Dr. Lindsay Hundley of Meta, Mr. Kian Vesteinsson of Freedom House, and Mr. Gavin Wilde of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, moderated by Mr. Mark de la Iglesia, Director for US Democracy at Freedom House. Mr. Fred Ryan will deliver opening remarks beginning at 2:30 PM ET.

Please arrive no later than 2:15 PM ET. Light refreshments will be available.

This event will take place in person at the Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, DC. If you cannot attend in person, you may register to watch online.
