The Ronald Reagan Institute's Across the Aisle Series brings together elected officials from both political parties to engage in thoughtful, civil discourse focused on the importance of bipartisanship to an audience of young emerging leaders in the DC area.
President Reagan and Speaker of the House Thomas “Tip” O’Neil repeatedly reached across the aisle, despite fierce ideological and political differences, to engage in bipartisan negotiation for the betterment of the country. In his February 1981 address to Congress, President Reagan told fellow lawmakers that the American people “don’t demand miracles” but they do “expect us to act. Let us act together.” We hope to invoke this legacy with today’s leaders as we work towards strengthening our democracy and discourse.
This summer's series features Senator Angus King (I-ME) and Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD). Both Senator King and Senator Rounds sit on the Senate Armed Services Committee and will comment on their time working together
