This workshop is a collaborative project of The Butterfly Project and Facing History and Ourselves, hosted by the Annenberg Presidential Learning Center at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.

How do we understand and honor children's lives taken during the Holocaust? Participants will experience a study of the Holocaust focused on youth voices, using the fully revised, edition of Holocaust and Human Behavior.  Participants will learn about the world-wide initiatives of The Butterfly Project and concrete projects their students can do to make connections with stories of individuals lost during the Holocaust. This workshop is particularly relevant for teachers of The Diary of Anne Frank and/or other Holocaust memoir.

In this day-long workshop, participants will:

  • Engage with classroom-ready multimedia resources
  • Get a sequenced unit to prepare students to participate in The Butterfly Project and learn how to build a customized unit that meets your curriculum objectives
  • Discover new teaching strategies that help students interrogate text, think critically, and discuss controversial issues respectfully
  • Get a Butterfly Project Starter Kit and create your own butterfly!
  • Receive complimentary admission to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and the Air Force One Pavilion.

After this workshop participants will:

  • Become part of the Facing History educator network with access to a rich slate of educator resources, including downloadable unit and lesson plans, study guides, and multimedia

Receive priority registration for the Holocaust Remembrance Speaker Series hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.
