September 15, 2018
Schedule
8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
We invite K-12 teachers to a full day of sessions and lectures designed to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution. Each year, schools dedicate time on or around September 17 to deepen an understanding of the Constitution as a kick-off to an entire year of civic learning that prepares students to be informed, engaged citizens. This event is co-sponsored by the Arsalyn Program of the Ludwick Family Foundation, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, Constitutional Rights Foundation, Center for Civic Education, and the Southern California Social Science Association.
The conference is complemented by a keynote address by Julie Silverbrook, Executive Director of The Constitutional Sources Project, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization devoted to increasing understanding, facilitating research, and encouraging discussion of the U.S. Constitution. Ms. Silverbrook holds a J.D. from the William & Mary Law School and B.A. in political science from The George Washington University.
Nonrefundable registration is $25 per person and includes tours of the museum and free, ready-to-use classroom lesson plans. Register online at http://cms-ca.org/constitution_day_conf.html by Wednesday, September 5, 2018. The first 200 teachers to sign up and attend will receive a $75 stipend. For additional information about the conference, please contact Michelle M. Herczog at the Los Angeles County Office of Education at Herczog_Michelle@lacoe.edu or Damon Huss at Constitutional Rights Foundation at damon@crf-usa.org.
