In his February 1981 address to Congress, President Reagan told fellow lawmakers that the American people “don’t demand miracles” but they do “expect us to act. Let us act together.” We hope to invoke this legacy with today’s young leaders as we work towards strengthening our democracy and discourse.
President Ronald Reagan worked across differences throughout his life and he embodied a leadership style that empowered others. From reaching across the aisle with rivals such as Speaker Tip O'Neill or Senator Ted Kennedy, or past the Iron Curtain to General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev - President Reagan worked with unlikely partners to achieve shared goals. In his own circles, he recognized that great leaders inspire others to do great things. The 2023 Reagan Leadership Summit will reflect President Reagan’s commitment to leadership through collaboration and cultivation. The summit will focus on the importance of building coalitions with unlikely partners in order to create positive change.
Students will hear from speakers making change in their communities, learn new leadership tools and strategies, and expand their networks by meeting fellow students from across the country. Young leaders can apply the lessons they learn throughout the conference to engage with their community and the nation.
