Driven by her own history of speech impediments, Christine strove to be a voice for those around her without one. As board president of her school’s Service Learning Board, she advocated for hungry and homeless families. She was the student representative appointed by the County government on the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council. In addition, Christine represented her school and community among a number of national organizations, serving as a North Carolina delegate for the U.S. Senate Youth Program, chapter founder for Junior State of America, and chapter secretary for the National Society of Black Engineers. She was a member of the varsity cross country team for her school, the North Carolina School for Science and Mathematics, and teen council vice president for the North Carolina youth development program. From Wilmington, N.C., Christine will attend Middleburg College after a gap year in Americorps.
