$8,000 Scholarship Recipient
An early passion for environmental issues started Shannon on her path as an advocate against initiatives such as building an offshore liquefied natural gas terminal at the tender age of 11. Shannon spoke to civic groups, educators, environmentalists, government leaders and business organizations, winning over thousands of people in the process. Shannon hasn’t stopped since. Her work continues to have an effect on decisions involving wetland preservation and park and forest protection via environmental groups such as the Ventura Sierra Club and Saving Ormond Beach Project. She lends her sailing skills as a volunteer to teach at-risk youths to learn to navigate and understand the power and unpredictability of nature. Additionally, she also served as the President of the Interact Club as well as the Clare Boothe Luce Club and has participated for four years in the Villanova Mock Trial Team as a Prosecution Team Captain and Prosecuting Attorney. Shannon will graduate from Villanova Preparatory School and plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall.
