Her counselor describes Candace as “goal oriented,” “motivated,” and “exceptional.” President of her class since eighth grade, Candace has made tremendous contributions to her school, community, and state. After being inspired by the way her community supported her own family when in need, Candace was determined to give back, and did so initially through Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Her exposure to these drunk driving tragedies through her support of MADD ultimately led her to start her own nonprofit that serves law enforcement officers working DWI checkpoints, earning her an award from the state Department of Public Safety. She founded a second initiative, Teens for Jeans, whereby her efforts collected more than seven thousand pairs of jeans for homeless teens across her state. A former Miss Junior Teen New Mexico, Candace was captain of the cross country team, team leader for the track team, and a cheerleader. From Los Lunas, New Mexico, Candace will come to our state of California to attend Chapman University.
