Like Emilee, Sydney is also a nonprofit entrepreneur – founding So Others Are Protected, or SOAP, after serving as a volunteer EMT in Thailand, Burma, Haiti, Uganda, and India. Side note: parents, how many of you traveled to this many countries before college? SOAP collects discarded soap from luxury hotels and transports it to remote locations in Thailand, Burma, and India to address dire sanitation and health concerns. To help her achieve her organization’s objectives, Sydney has been studying Thai for three years. In addition to her global work, Sydney is involved at school, serving as president of the Girls Learn International club, secretary of the Model United Nations club, a member of the rowing club, a flutist, and a violinist. She also is a committee volunteer for the Children’s National Medical Center and DC Central Kitchen, among other organizations. From Washington, D.C, Sydney will study public health at Dartmouth College in the fall.
