Derrick Parker

Growing up in an urban community, Derrick witnessed how difficult it could be to focus on education due to the challenging atmosphere present in many of these communities. He knew that education is important and he became convinced that to succeed in school and in life, a support system was crucial. To that end, he partnered with an administrator to found Each One Teach One, in which students from his school mentor and tutor elementary students from nearby schools. In addition to running this program, after winning the National Dr. Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Competition, Derrick has traveled statewide to speak to younger students. He is a 1st place award winner for debate, was the captain of his football team, captain of the baseball team, Senior Class President, and section leader in band. Derrick’s ultimate goal is to be an elected official. Derrick is from Kansas City, MO and plans to attend Morehouse College in the fall.
