Megan discovered she had the power to help others when, unbeknownst to her, she saved another student’s life simply because she acknowledged that student over a several day period. While she noticed her tendency to seek out and befriend students that sat alone, it was this experience that catalyzed her efforts to another level. “I do it because it gives me a larger platform to make a difference. So now, I advocate for the voiceless students, those that are often overlooked.” In her freshman year, Megan created a Sidewalk Art Fair to highlight student talents who don’t get much acknowledgement. She sees the student whose life she saved participate each year. She later created a spirit group called Red Wave that cheers at every student function, leading her school to win the "Most Spirited High School in the Nation" award.
