The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is the nonprofit organization created by President Reagan himself and specifically charged by him with continuing his legacy and sharing his principles - individual liberty, economic opportunity, global democracy and national pride. The Foundation is a non-partisan organization which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, The Air Force One Pavilion and the award-winning Discovery Center, as well as the Reagan Institute, which promotes President Reagan’s legacy in Washington, DC. 

The Reagan Library houses over 60 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential and personal papers, over 1.6 million photographs, a half million feet of motion picture film, 25,000 audio recordings, 22,000 video recordings, and over 83,000 objects chronicling the lives of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.  It also serves as the final resting place of America’s 40th President and his First Lady. www.reaganfoundation.org

Job Description

The Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, D.C. seeks a full-time Research Assistant to the Director to perform research and special projects functions. We are looking for a take-charge individual with strong writing, research, organizational and communication skills. Their chief responsibility will be to assist the Director with a book project and support the Director carry out other responsibilities. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Special Assistant will be expected to perform the following specific duties and responsibilities related to this position and any duties hereafter assigned:

Research & Special Projects

  • Lead researcher for Director’s book project on President Reagan’s military buildup and peace through strength policy. This may include archival research, analysis of relevant research, writing research briefs, and the coordination of research groups to assist the Director.
  • Assist the Director with drafting memos, presentations, podcasts, testimony, articles and speeches
  • Provide research, writing and analytical support to the Director

Administrative & General Support 

  • Schedule appointments for the Director and maintain office calendars
  • Assist with correspondence and expense reports, as directed
  • Arrange travel for the Director
  • Expertly leverage all CRM and database platforms including Airtables, Google Drive, Salesforce, etc. 
  • Support all RRI events and relevant programs as directed by the Chief of Staff
  • Liaise with the Director of Scholarly Initiatives on research efforts supporting the Director’s book project and other relevant research initiatives.

Qualifications/Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Candidates must be vaccinated against COVID 19
  • Computer proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs required; familiarity with SalesForce database programs preferred, but training will be provided
  • Fluency with cloud-based platforms and environments (i.e. Google Drive)
  • Ability to organize digital files
  • Knowledge of operation of standard office equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills and experience in customer service
  • Knowledge of clerical/administrative procedures and systems as well as filing and record keeping
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Strong work and time management skills, including flexibility and adaptability
  • Initiative, integrity and stress tolerance are a must
  • Collaborative, works well within and across teams
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity at all times
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to function at a high level in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and adapt well to change
  • Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Efficient, effective, and energetic with autonomy and limited direction or daily management from supervisor and/or teammates
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite and Apple computers and software
  • Ease with computer and mobile applications
  • Ability to maintain a professional image and represent the organization well on the phone, through email contacts and at all events/programs
  • Ability to work evenings, holiday, and weekend hours as needed

Salary, Benefits and Job Location

This is an exempt regular full-time position, offering a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including paid vacation, a health/dental plan, and retirement benefits. This position will report to the Director of the Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, D.C., but may, from time to time, be required to participate in meetings and/or events in Simi Valley, California.
