The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is the sole nonprofit organization created by President Reagan charged with continuing his legacy and sharing his principles - individual liberty, economic opportunity, global democracy and national pride. The Foundation is a non-partisan organization which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, The Air Force One Pavilion, the award-winning Discovery Center, and the Reagan Institute, which carries out the Foundation’s mission in Washington, D.C.  The Reagan Library houses over 55 million pages of Gubernatorial, Presidential and personal papers and over 60,000 gifts and artifacts chronicling the lives of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. The Reagan Leadership Center

The Reagan Education team's goal is to develop and inspire the citizens and leaders of tomorrow through immersive and impactful learning opportunities rooted in President Reagan’s principles and the lessons of his life and presidency. We have as a major priority reaching vast numbers of young people where they are – in their schools and online. Especially in these consequential times for our country, our mission is vitally important.

The Reagan Leadership Center is an immersive, educational experience designed to inspire the next generation of student leaders.  The Reagan Leadership Center allows students to face the responsibilities and challenges faced by the Executive Branch, military, and media in a realistic, highly produced, interactive environment. Students will practice and improve their leadership, critical thinking and decision-making skills in a simulation where students lead, and the stakes are high.

Job Description

The Learning Specialist, a part-time position, facilitates and connects with students/teachers during the Reagan Leadership Center’s simulations and Student Leadership Program, from student arrivals, to leading pre-brief sessions, facilitating interactive and engaging modules, designing and developing activities and curriculum materials, as well as, administratively supporting the education team. The Learning Specialist delivers top quality programming and service to the visiting schools and community groups. During the summer Student Leadership Program, the Learning Specialist guides discussion, trains/leads others and ensures a quality leadership experience for program participants.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere and contribute to the RRPFI and Reagan Education mission and goals
  • The successful candidate must be passionate about President Ronald Reagan’s legacy and principles
  • Deliver the Reagan Leadership Center’s simulation for groups (students, corporate partners, guests)
  • Provide students and teachers with an exceptional field trip experience -- including arrivals/departures to the museum, Reagan Leadership Center, lunch, gift shop, museum tour, and other onsite activities
  • Learn about and ongoing study of museum exhibits and information needed to conduct a thorough tour of the museum
  • Help with administrative tasks such as phone calls, mailing, filing, inventory, stocking curriculum materials, etc
  • Work as a team and effectively communicating with all staff and volunteers at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library
  • Train new staff members and/or interns, volunteers, etc
  • Develop activities and curriculum, use interactive board and iPad technology
  • Additionally, Reagan Foundation employees are often asked to work during the Library’s special events (Center for Public Affairs speaker series/Sunset Dinners/Fourth of July/etc.) and expected to participate in the annual Reagan National Defense Forum held each year at the end of November/beginning of December
  • Digitize existing content/curriculum and create digital content/curriculum for interactive and effective virtual learning experiences
  • Demonstrate proficiency in digital platforms including Zoom, Hopin, and Google Workspace
  • Support development of game-based learning activities (digital and analog)
  • Participate and/or lead outreach (attending conferences, visiting partners, etc.) as directed by CEPO

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Teaching credential (preferred, but not required)
  • Experience teaching 5th-12th grade students in classroom or museum setting
  • A love of history and knowledge of Ronald Reagan’s life is
  • Proficient with iOS/Apple technology, Google Docs and Zoom
  • Proven ability to think strategically and adapt well to change
  • Experience and a desire to work with a diverse population of students, teachers, parent chaperones, and volunteer docents.
  • Physical demands include frequent walking and use of stairs, as well as long periods of standing

Salary/Benefits/Location

  • This is a non-exempt part-time position, approximately 20-28 hours per week during the school year, 15-28 hours per week during the summer months. Occasional evenings and weekends for special events are required
  • Benefits include the opportunity to participate in a retirement program as well as Paid Time Off (PTO) based on hours accrued per pay period and years of service
  • This position will be compensated on a $19.00 per hour basis and will be eligible for overtime
  • The position will be located at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library, Simi Valley, California
