Cathy Busch is Vice President and Director of Sotheby’s Chicago, the auction company’s largest regional office in the U.S. In this capacity, she works with Midwestern private collectors, museums, institutions and corporations, providing clients with access to the full range of Sotheby’s appraisal and auction services.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s in January of 1999, Ms. Busch owned and operated Busch Communications Company, an independent, Chicago-based public relations and event consulting firm. During that time, she spent much of 1996 traveling the country with former American Red Cross President and presidential candidate, Elizabeth Dole, as Press Secretary. Mrs. Dole was aggressively campaigning for her husband during his race for the presidency.
Just prior to her relocation to Chicago, Mrs. Busch served as Press Secretary and Director of Public Affairs to President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan in Los Angeles from 1989 until 1995. As official spokeswoman for both President and Mrs. Reagan, Busch worked daily with the national and international media, coordinated press coverage for all public events, and managed all media announcements and official statements. Her duties also included oversight of the public affairs operation; development of communications strategies; all speechwriting and correspondence; coordination of all interviews and appearances, and promotion associated with the opening of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California.
Mrs. Busch served the Reagans in the White House, following a brief period in the campaign press office of Senator Bob Dole. Mrs. Busch attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and received a BA in English literature. She currently resides in downtown Chicago with her husband, and their three young children.
