United States Congressman Paul Ryan delivered the Perspectives in Leadership Forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.  Congressman Ryan will discuss A Rendezvous with Reagan's Legacy: Lessons for 2012.”

A fifth-generation native of Janesville, Wisconsin, Paul Ryan has represented the First Congressional District since 1998, carrying forth Wisconsin’s proud tradition of hard-working, reform-minded leadership in the House of Representatives. Serving as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Paul is a leading voice for fiscal discipline and accountability in the federal government. He is also a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, where he has focused his efforts on making health care more affordable and more accessible, reducing the complexity and burdens of our federal tax code, and strengthening American jobs and competitiveness.

In 2008, he introduced “A Roadmap for America’s Future,” a comprehensive proposal that tackles the interrelated crises in health care, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, our outdated tax code, and our exploding debt. In 2009 and 2010, Paul led Republicans in opposing the Democrats’ health care overhaul offering the “Patients’ Choice Act”, a free-market alternative that would fix what’s broken in our health care system without breaking what’s working. Most recently, Paul authored and was instrumental in helping to pass the House Republican budget, the “Path to Prosperity”, which provides a comprehensive blueprint on how we can pay off our debt, reform our tax code, and grow the economy.

Prior to his election to Congress, Paul worked at Ryan Inc., Central – a construction firm that was founded by his great-grandfather in 1884 - and gained experience in public service serving as an aide, economic advisor, and speechwriter for conservative leaders like Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett. Paul currently resides near his childhood home in Janesville, his church – St. John Vianney’s Parish, and his alma mater - Joseph A. Craig High School. He and his wife Janna are the proud parents of three children – Liza, Charlie and Sam.
