In The Way Forward, Paul Ryan examines the state of the Republican Party, beginning with a careful analysis of the 2012 election, and dissects its challenges going forward.  Culminating in a plan for the future, The Way Forward argues that the Republican Party is and must remain a conservative party, emphasizing conservatism in a way that demonstrates how it can modernize and appeal to both our deepest concerns and highest ideals.

Paul Ryan is currently serving his 8th term as a Member of Congress and is the Chairman of the House Budget Committee.  Congressman Ryan’s “The Path to Prosperity” was written to tackle our nation’s fiscal crisis.  The plan helps spur job creation, stops spending money the government doesn’t have and lifts the crushing burden of debt.

Wednesday, October 1, 2014
6:00 p.m. Lecture
7:00 p.m. Book Signing

Please join us for a lecture and book signing with PayPal Co-Founder Peter Thiel on his new book, Zero to One:Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future (Publish Date: September 16, 2014). Books must be purchased at the Reagan Library Museum Store to receive signature, and can be pre-purchased during the reservation process. To reserve tickets and/or purchase books, please click here.

In Zero to One, Silicon Valley legend Peter Thiel shares his innovative new theory and formula for how to build the companies of the future: the only way to create lasting value and profits is to create and monopolize a new market instead of trying to compete in an existing one. The next great company won’t be another Microsoft or Apple--those have been done. Instead it will be something completely new that we have yet to dream up. Here Thiel shows how to build companies of the future by going from Zero to One.

Peter Thiel is a technology entrepreneur and investor best known for co-founding PayPal. Since then he has co-founded the data analytics firm Palantir Technologies, made the first outside investment in Facebook, provided early funding for companies like SpaceX and LinkedIn and established and funds the Thiel Foundation, which nurtures tomorrow’s
tech visionaries.

Reagan Forum with Dr. Steven Hayward
Monday, October 27, 2014

11:00 a.m.

Fifty years ago, journalist David Broder described Ronald Reagan’s speech on behalf of presidential candidate Barry Goldwater as “the most successful political debut since William Jennings Bryan.” The speech, entitled “A Time for Choosing,” would echo in American politics for 50 years, defining a new approach to conservatism laced with a forward looking optimism rooted in the latent greatness of America.

Steven F. Hayward, the Ronald Reagan Professor of Public Policy at Pepperdine, will explore the impact of “the Speech” and its current relevance to American politics when he delivers the Reagan Forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00a.m. This lecture is free to attend; however, reservations are required. To reserve seats, click here.

Steven F. Hayward, is currently the Thomas Smith Distinguished Fellow at the John M. Ashbrook Center at Ashland University, where he directs the Ashbrook Center’s new program in political economy. For the last decade he was the F.K. Weyerhaeuser Fellow in Law and Economics at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., and a Senior Fellow at the Pacific Research Institute in San Francisco.

Hayward writes daily on the popular PowerLineBlog.com, and frequently serves as a guest host for Bill Bennett’s national radio show “Morning in America” on the Salem Broadcasting Network. Hayward is the author of a two-volume narrative history of Ronald Reagan and his effect on American
political life, The Age of Reagan: The Fall of the Old Liberal Order, 1964-1980, and The Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counter-Revolution, 1980- 1989 (CrownForum books).

RNDF MISSION

The Reagan National Defense Forum (RNDF) brings together leaders and key stakeholders in the defense community – including, members of Congress, civilian officials and military leaders from the Defense Department and industry – to address the health of our national defense and stimulate a discussion that promotes policies that strengthen the US military in the future. In an era of fiscal austerity where the threats to our national security are increasing in number and complexity, the RNDF will allow senior leaders from the defense community to come together with viewpoints on how best to deal with it. Though President Reagan left office many years ago, the United States military continues to benefit from his commitment and vision for a strong military. Recognizing that today’s decisions will affect the military’s capabilities for years to come, RNDF charges leaders from current and past Administrations and Congress to look beyond the immediate issues facing the military and explore how we can build peace through strength for American Security.
